What is digital accessibility?

An accessible website is a website that allows all web users, including those who have a disability and use specialized software or hardware, to have access to its content without any difficulties.

For example, an accessible website allows the user to:

  • navigate using text-to-voice or braille display (used in particular by blind and visually impaired web users);
  • customize the website’s display according to their needs (enlarge the fonts, change the colors, etc.);
  • navigate without using the mouse, using the keyboard only or a tactile screen;
  • etc.

To be accessible, a website’s design and upgrades have to respect strict standards.

Accessibility audit of the site

The following pages of the site underwent an accessibility audit (level AA) conducted by Atalan in April 2018:

  • home page (;
  • find your store (;
  • a category page: Lipstick (;
  • a product sheet: Le rouge à porter (;
  • our products for research “Le rouge" (

Accessibility level of the website

The audit revealed that the website has a good level of accessibility.

Except for the points below, the website complies with criteria A and AA of the WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) version 2.0:

  • the navigation menu of the website’s mobile version cannot be “read” by a screen reader (text-to-voice and/or braille display used by blind and visually impaired people). However, this menu is due to be made accessible in a forthcoming update of the website;
  • when the text size is increased by the user, some of the content becomes illegible (or difficult to read);
  • certain pages of the site contain HTML validation errors, according to the W3C standard.
    However, to our knowledge, these few errors do not cause any real accessibility issues (no incidence on assistive technologies, in particular);
  • the product colors displayed when hovering the mouse over certain links to the relevant product are not reproduced by screen readers.
    However, it is worth noting that the available colors for a product are accurately reproduced (and selectable) by screen readers in the product detail page;
  • the slide show of photos displayed on the product detail page does not comply with all the accessibility rules;
  • third-party functions:

    although it can be used, the “Google” autofill function in the store search field on the “find your store” page is not fully accessible using a screen reader;

    the interactive “Google” map on the "find your store” page is not fully accessible using just a keyboard or a screen reader;

    the iframe contents in the "Select a Distributor" panel (found on the product pages) do not comply with all of the accessibility rules;

    although the YouTube video player has a good level of accessibility (especially on the product pages), it does not comply with all of the accessibility rules.
