THE ECO-DESIGN OF OUR PACKAGING

MEASURING FOR PROGRESS

Givenchy has committed to improving the Environmental Performance Index (EPI) of all its packaging by 40% by 2025*.

The EPI index is used to measure and judge the proper application of Givenchy's eco-design principles to all new products. The tool calculates a score out of 20 based on criteria such as the weight/volume ratio in relation to the quantity of formula, the number of layers, the reduction in weight, the integration of green materials, the recyclability of the packaging and the refill ability.

REDUCING OUR PACKAGING

Le Soin Noir Cream with eco conceived packaging

The reduction of packaging weight is the first eco-design strategy worked on by Givenchy.

The Gentleman perfume bottle was redesigned in 2021 to reduce the amount of glass used. Eau de Parfum Intense was the first fragrance in the range to benefit from this new design, which saves 30% of glass in the 3.38 oz format (16% for the 2 oz format). All the bottles in the Gentleman range feature this format in 2022.

The jars and boxes of the Le Soin Noir line have been entirely redesigned with a complete eco-design approach. Thanks to a redesigned volume, the glass weight of the product has been reduced by 44%, for an environmental impact reduced by 60%.

PRIORITIZING ECO-FRIENDLY MATERIALS

Rose Perfecto Balm with eco conceived packaging

Givenchy is committed to reducing its consumption of virgin fossil-based plastic by 30% by 2025. This commitment is reflected in the replacement of some plastic components with glass and in the use of recycled materials. Since 2021, the Maison uses recycled materials in some of its products. The cap of Prisme Libre Glow Foundation is made up of 72% recycled plastic. In December 2022, 54% of make-up references integrate recycled or biobased plastic.

Givenchy also pays special attention to new plastics made from plant materials (called bio-sourced materials). The packaging of the Rose perfecto liquid features a material never used before in a cosmetic product: a cactus. Grown in Mexico, this cactus was the subject of several months of research before being integrated into the product's coating.

In less than two years, Givenchy integrated 44% recycled glass into its bottles in December 2022 (compared to 18% in January 2021 and 0% in 2020).

AIMING FOR REFILLABLE PRODUCTS

Le Soin Noir Cream with eco conceived packaging

One of Givenchy's priorities is to offer refillable versions of all its iconic products by 2025.
The Le Soin Noir and Ressource creams already operate on this system, which allows them to be easily refilled.
In the same vein, in 2021, the Maison developed a new, never-before-seen mechanism to refill some of its lipsticks. This innovation is being progressively implemented on the different versions of the Interdit lipsticks. Other iconic products of the Maison will soon be available in a refillable version.
